It's Not Your Little Sister's Game Anymore!

OK., so most Americans play badminton in the backyard waiting for the hot dogs to cook.

But that's just us.

For the rest of the world badminton is a big-time, highly competitive gold medal sport at the national, World and Olympic levels.

NBC-TV even gave added coverage to the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and televised badminton competition - including, for the first time, a good look at the US Olympic Team. Take a look, you'll be surprised.

And like all true world sports, badminton has a competitive branch for adaptive athletes - amps, wheelers, and Les Autres - for recreational play and with regional and national and International competitions.

Competitive Divisions

Adaptive badminton competitions are held in
    Men's and women's singles
    Men's and women's doubles, and
Mixed doubles - in the following categories:

   Disability below waist/above knee
   Disability below waist/below knee
   Disability - upper extremity
   Wheelchair 1
   Wheelchair 2

The USA, however, does not currently have a competitive adaptive badminton team - an "able bodied" competitive team, yes. But not an adaptive team.

So if you thought you could never play in a US team uniform, this might be an opportunity to prove yourself wrong.

If you've got good hand-eye coordination; if you have or can develop a strong, flexible wrist; if the idea of travel, new friends, and interesting competition appeal to you; and if you don't mind telling your friends you play with a feathered shuttlecock, send us an E-mail , and get in the game.
